Doing it wrong is easier than doing it right. You can screw it up by doing it wrong.
And doing it wrong, is as easy as doing nothing.
Ya with me? Let me say that again. Doing it wrong is as easy as doing nothing.
Doing nothing is easy. Maybe that’s why so many do nothing. Doing it right, is hard work.
The people who do work hard are also tempted to do nothing. Most don’t believe this, but it’s true.
Take me for example. Last night I made plans to run five miles this morning. Instead, I’ve made a few rationalizations so I can do nothing instead. Actually, I’m very busy this morning. But not physically.
And so it goes….
Everyone who knew of him called him, Pre.
Jan. 25, 1951 – May 30, 1974
If there ever was an American runner who had courage, guts and vision, Steve Prefontaine would have to be at the top of the list.

One of my all-time favorite movies, in any genre, is Without Limits– the Steve Prefontaine story.
He was a front-runner. meaning, he went out front, grabbed the lead and held onto it until the finish line.
His coach, Bill Bowerman, at the University of Oregon, tried to get him to hold back and draft off other runners. Hold back so he could run his last mile faster than his first mile – and probably his overall time would be faster.
Pre, basically, would have none of it.

The only way he knew how to run was flat out, all the way.
Even if he lost, he would always know that he left nothing on the track.
His greatest race was the 5,000 at the 1972 Munich Olympics. He finished fourth.
But it was still his greatest race.
If I have to explain it to you, then you probably won’t understand. But that’s OK. There’s a ton I still don’t understand.
I do understand one thing though, if your goals aren’t impossible, you’re not reaching high enough. You can quote me on that one.
Carpe diem and leave nothing on the track. jeff noel 🙂
Pain and suffering?
Not today.
Ran two miles this morning. Wanted to do three, but didn’t have an extra ten minutes.
Such is life.
I did get to the gym and had a good strength and core workout.
Confirmed my hotel in Finland today. I had to pinch myself.
Carpe diem, jeff 🙂
The day started at 5am and it’s 10:30PM now. This morning’s five-mile run gets a “96.5% ready”.
Mile two had some minor left heel pain, which had me nervous. The rest of the way, however, was pain free. Mile four, I throttled up the pace and felt great. This made me less nervous. 🙂
Overall? Feeling 96.5% ready for sprint training to begin. Tomorrow will be another rest day, due to work schedule and lack of rest tonight. We had our taxes done tonight which threw my routine off. No worries.
Can’t wait for tomorrow. Dream big! jeff noel
