Did You Know?

Know Your Numbers
Know Your Numbers

Did you know that if you don’t know these numbers (below), there are people like me who question your intelligence?

Do you know your:

  • Body weight
  • HDL & LDL cholesterol
  • Blood pressure
  • Resting heart rate
  • Triglycerides
  • BMI (body mass index)

These are the bare minimum numbers you should know and manage. If you feel uncomfortable with today’s tone, good.

You can wait for your wake up call, or you can anticipate it and manage it before it gets out of control. People who nag you about your health love you.

You knew that right?

Who's In?

The 2010 Master’s Athletics Indoor Master’s Track & Field World Championships are being held March 1-6, 2010 in Kamloops, British Columbia.

The deadline to submit your entry is tomorrow, January 31.

World Championships?  Are you kidding me?

Ten years ago, absolutely.

Today, not so much.

Most people can not even fathom what it would take to compete at a world-class level. Which is perfect, because Lane 8 isn’t about how to run faster, it’s about how to never stop running…..or walking, or swimming, or cycling, or dancing, or whatever it is that you find motivation to do.

Just keep moving.  Just keep eating well. Just keep being a great health example to the people you care about. That’s why Lane 8 exists.

Millrose Games Wanamaker Mile

Age Knows No Limits
Age Knows No Limits

Bernard Lagat, 35, won his eighth Millrose Games Wanamaker mile last night, in Madison Square Garden.

The Millrose Games is the oldest Indoor Track & Field meet in the world, at 103 years.

Bernard Lagat is 35 years old.  Age, accomplishments, and  barriers continue to be broken.

It’s fun to see it happen before your eyes.

Motivation is like a fire.  You have to continue to add fuel to it.

But will you.  Today, I mean?  Will you?

Ten Bucks Says

We Are All Being Watched, Every Day
We Are All Being Watched, Every Day

Yesterday’s You Tube video selections were hand-picked.

You probably didn’t know that. Nor do you care.

That’s one of the secrets to staying motivated for a long time – like until we die – is to constantly, relentlessly, be finding and discovering things, ways, to get and stay motivated.

I did all the work and you didn’t even watch them.  Predictable.

You know why?  It’s no secret.  I struggle with it all too.

Unless It Matters To You

This morning, at 4:50AM, while deciding what to write here at Lane 8, found a post I had started in August 2009, but had never finished, never posted.

In watching these two videos, it’s clear where my mind was. It was on motivation. Everyday our minds should be on motivation.  Everyday.

Many of you will never be runners. That’s ok.  Never want you to feel like you should be a runner. But I absolutely want you to feel you should do something. Walk, bike, dance, roll, swim, stairs, yoga, gym, ski…. it doesn’t matter, unless it matters to you.
