Did You Realize?

We go through life, addressing one health issue after another.

Along the way, we have choices. As simple as quit, or keep going. As complex as a multi-faceted approach to pain.

Yesterday’s easy run reminded me how much pain I’ve been through the past 2-3 years with the chronic inflammation that accompanies plantar fasciitis.

It feels like “phantom pain”, the pain that an amputee may feel, even though the limb is no longer there.

You and I have a million reasons why we don’t exercise.

I’m going somewhere with this. See you tomorrow?

Bariatric Surgery

O Is For Obesity
O Is For Obesity

He did a cost benefits analysis to prove it would be cheaper to pay for his bariatric surgery than to let him continue on his path.

He lost 175 pounds, gained 25 back and has been holding steady for many years now. After they stapled his stomach, it went from the size of a football to the size of an egg.

We recently spent three days together and he assured me multiple times, he has no curtains on his johari window. And he also said he was addicted to food, after sharing that I had overcome an addiction.

What I couldn’t get out of my mind was the image of him carrying me piggyback. And not just across a small stream so my feet didn’t get wet, but carrying that 150 extra pounds every minute of every day.

Even when he was sleeping, or trying to, it would be like me lying on top of him – all 150 pounds.

He saved his own life.  He inspired me.  I count myself lucky to know the man.

We all have hard decisions to make. He did whatever it took.

Lane 8 USA Obesity

This Dude Is 50
This Dude Is 50

Once again tonight, the TV was on while I was in the vicinity, doing the evening things American families do. I don’t sit and watch TV, unless it’s American Idol, and even then it’s iffy.

But Diane Sawyer was talking about First Lady Michelle Obama announcing big plans to fight childhood obesity.

Childhood obesity? Are you kidding me!!!!  For real?

How the hel heck is that possible?

We all know why, and there’s an old saying that proves this “fact”.

“The acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

The best way to help our children is to help ourselves. We adults are in for the fight of our lives, if we really want to be a great health example. And if we don’t have the fight of your lives….

Then our children will.

How does a person live with that?  Seriously.  How?

Is Idol on at 8pm or 9pm tonight?

Every Body Is Watching You

Warning or Example?
Warning or Example?

Are you a movie star?

A rock star?

A Hollywood celebrity?

Most likely, we can all answer these questions with a resounding, “No.”

But I beg to offer a different perspective (imagine that, lol).

People are watching you the same way they watch famous people, and they are doing the same thing to you they do after watching famous people.

Judging.

We are all telling a story about what we value. Yes, we are. Every single day.  Every choice we make is another “scene” from the movie entitled “Your Life”.

And this brings us back to a very poignant question, “Am I an example or a warning?”

On The Run?

Not as in running, jogging, sprinting.  On the run as in a hurry.

Spent four days in Anchorage, Alaska and did not exercise.  Not by choice.

Got back late last night early this morning.  There is no exercising this morning either.  Five straight days without exercise.  I feel the pain of everyone who struggles to make physical wellness a priority.

There is no easy way.

Well, actually, there is an easy way – simply don’t worry about it until the phone rings, “Excuse me, it’s for you.  It’s your wake up call”.
