Habits and ambitions, body

Our clocks are always ticking. Over-focus on healthy habits that we used to under-focus on or ignore.

Culture equals habits.

Habits equal results.

Therefore culture equals results.

Now, transfer this insight to health:

Personal health culture equals habits.

Habits equal results.

Personal health equals results.

The math is simple to follow…

Poor results from poor habits.

Good results from good habits.

Great results from great habits.

No, this time i mean it

No, this time i mean it!“, says everyone.

January 1st, the gym is packed for three weeks with all the people saying, “No, this time I mean it.”

Prior to 2020’s Covid-induced no-gym gym workout, i always appreciated how the gym got back to normal after January 21st.

person and two dogs on grass hill
L-R: me, Goldy, Hunter: Goldy and Hunter are ‘Rez dogs’. Their owners live near the Lodge. The dogs hang out at the Lodge all Summer. The 1.5 million acre Blackfeet Nation surrounds the Lodge and borders the Park.

Simple things are timeless.

Rest.

Reflection.

Restoration.

The photo: Late afternoon. Warm. Calm. Peaceful. Goldy and Hunter were napping. So i joined them. Cheryl was watching a wedding on the Lodge’s backside (the side facing the Park’s mountains).

mountain lake
No shortage of water here. It’s glacier water, but it’s still water.

Coaches are asked to do a second thing that is actually a separate job.

Coaches show how to do things and why all things interconnecting is critical for peak results.

That space is called teaching.

However, what clients also want from the teacher is motivation.

This is the paradox.

Learning, and then knowing, is opposite from deeply wanting to apply new learning and knowledge.

And there’s the rub.

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.

A great coach teaches a horse to find water on its own.

Yet we’re still left with this: The horse might not drink when we lead it to water. The horse might not drink after it finds water on its own.

Conundrum.

My goal with my chronic habits is to:

  • Think clearly
  • Sleep peacefully
  • Move slowly
  • Live quietly
  • Shine light
