How’s your flywheel?

flywheel
The other day…i needed a metaphor to help a teenager understand their continuously accelerating progress. They can’t see it as easily as me.

Last night at sunset, i knew 12 hours later (an hour from now as i type this) i’d be on the bicycle.

Flywheel.

How’s yours?

Hard to get going. Hard to stop once it does.

Getting to exercise three hours this morning feels like a reward versus a burden.

Can you intelligently (and convincingly) explain why you aren’t exercising?

High school physical night
Last night the High School offered $25 student athlete physicals in the gym after school. About 75% of the student body participates in athletics.

How long do you plan to live?

Can you intelligently (and convincingly) explain why you aren’t exercising?

Do you plan to start?

Why not?

And if yes…

When do you plan to start exercising?

Back to how many years you think you’ll live.

Do you suppose you’ll be healthier if you started gradually and then eventually, say in a year or two, you kept with it forever?

Does this change any of your previous answers?

What does your body say when you ask it if it’s excited?

Windermere 5k
Two days ago we walked in the Windermere 5k as a Family.

Because i took last Friday off from biking, my legs have been resting since last Wednesday morning. Five days rest.

Anxious to saddle up in a few minutes.

With the first and almost imperceptible hint at dawn as i gaze out my office window while typing this, i know today’s workout will not be a burden.

It will be a gift.

Actually, every workout is a gift, but when you are tired and overwhelmed, it’s easy to forget.

What makes some adults exercise regularly their entire lifetime

relatives
Babies don’t think about exercise, but while awake, it’s all they do.. Boomers think about it a lot, but rarely do it. Fascinating.

What makes some adults exercise regularly their entire lifetime and others avoid it altogether their entire lifetime?

Exercise is great stimulation for creativity

Disney cast costumes
Today, December 15, 2016, waiting to visit One Man’s Dream. Suitcase and box are similar.

Exercise is great stimulation for creativity.

Walt Disney played Polo, but no one ever described Walt as fit.

But his ability to inspire creativity in others was (and still is) remarkable.

At Disney, we think “Inside-The-Box”, not outside.

The thing about thinking outside the box is that most people, when they get outside of the box, they don’t know what they’re looking at because they have never built their box.

Dear son, use what i’ve taught you to build your box, and, think inside of it, not outside.

And every so often you’ll want to expand your box – to make it bigger – and having a well-defined box will facilitate this.

The four sides of your box are: vision, mission, brand, customer.
