Remember what jeff noel always says, “The long way is the shortcut”. Driving home from a Cub Scout camping trip, we passed the Kissimmee, Florida Fair. Couldn’t help but snap this photo. A year later the photo’s purpose is revealed: we Baby Boomers go round and round searching for our health and wellness shortcuts. It makes me nauseous.

In the Animal Kingdom, there are no wellness programs. Animals survive because each day they use common sense: stay active, eat to stay alive, and watch your back. Common sense is rarely common practice in the human world. I’m thankful for that.

No doubt many visitors have come and gone, finding jeff noel’s five main Mid Life Celebration blogs too offensive, too painful, too pushy, too true, too egotistical, too whatever blah, blah, blah.
And no doubt, a disproportionately small group of midlife Baby Boomers have found noel’s five daily blogs refreshingly inspirational. Life is hard. Life is good. Can’t have one without the other. Go.

No plan for success will work if we don’t. How difficult would it be to make a list of the common excuses that keep us Boomers from being active? An excuse like: “I can not go for a walk four or five times a week”.
If my posts sound like I’m writing to an audience, I am, but it’s an audience of one. Me. Everyday it’s the same, find a million ways to not quit. We better be the first in our own line to volunteer to help ourselves.

It would seem healthy, active midlife Baby Boomers (like jeff noel) are just a bunch of lucky showoffs. But from where noel stands, what is really happening is that living an unhealthy life seems so ungrateful to the gift bestowed us. Certain Boomers have no choice. No choice but to get and stay healthy. It’s the only way they can live with personal integrity.
