i quit, he said to himself.

On yesterday morning’s first run on Sanibel Island, the pain kicked in big time at mile six, during a three-minute half-mile interval.

With Nationals and World’s looming, where i wanted to be and where i am are far apart.

Wisdom is knowing the real goal is to simply to be able to run freely, and pain-free.

Why do these things continue to happen?

Moon
iPhone 6 wasn’t that great in capturing the moon. But the the notion of the moon and stars aligning…

Why do these things continue to happen?

Pain, injury, set backs.

Why?

The real reason – the one we never see – is the fact that we haven’t quit.

These challenges keep surfacing because we are still on the path to somewhere – a dream maybe.

Turn back, or quit, and none of these things are anything to worry about.

Pain has migrated from right calf to right ankle.

So weird and unexplainable.

Lifetime exercise seems limited to people who truly love exercise

Map My Run near Disney World
Yesterday’s run through Windermere.

Lifetime exercise seems limited to people who truly love exercise.

Newsflash, it’s not the magic that makes it work, it’s the hard work that makes it magic.

The refusal to quit is the secret sauce that no one talks about.

Only running three days a week as a retiree. This past week was astonishing with runs of 14, 13.1 and 10 miles.

Hidden in these numbers is the lifetime longest and second longest runs ever, in 55 years.

How is that possible?

May you someday make it impossible to quit

Disney University at Walt Disney World
Yesterday’s run, January 12..

Hope your desire to get healthier is a longterm desire.

The College National Championship game last night, January 12, stirs many people’s souls.

(Now here we are April 23 as this goes live.)

Sadly, the game’s excitement, and our soul stirring, wears off quickly.

Yesterday’s run to Disney University was cool.

And you?

PS. Congratulations to Ohio State University.

How do we make progress when we aren’t making progress?

(photo: Quitter? Just yesterday caught this image walking to the car while leaving Gold’s Gym)

The challenge with progress is how to keep making it when we aren’t making progress. Temptations to quit are relentless, and insidiously small and powerful.

If we remember only one thing today let it be this – this too shall pass. But it will return tomorrow to try and defeat us again.

One day at a time.

We become an example or a warning by our daily routine.
