Disney Creativity and foot pain

MacBook migration screen
Started the (second MacBook Air) migration mid-morning and then bicycled to Disney.
Apple Watch and space mountain
Biked five miles to here, then walked 2.5 miles around the Contemporary.
bicycle seat and small tire pump
Had to walk the bicycle five miles home. But wait, good news, after one mile of walking the bike, i discovered the small air pump. Got just enough air in the flat tire to bike the remaining four miles home.

Intentionally gave feet a rest today.

Bicycled to Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Why?

To accomplish two goals:

  1. Rest the feet
  2. Do reconnaissance at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Why?

In a few days, will be staying there and attending three one-day Disney Institute classes. Want to know what the before and after class options are, as a Guest.

What physical pain

thermometer
Day four with a fever. Thought it would be over in 24-72 hours.
home covid test
Because we had an extra (free) Covid test, why not test? Negative.
medical referral sheet
Went to the Walk-In side of my primary care physician at Windermere Medical Center. The receptionist told me i am no longer a patient there. She did offer a $167 office visit plus retail costs for any tests. Never thought of patients as commodities until now.
urgent care building
Took the closet referral from the photo above.
urgent care menu of services
One of my biggest clients is part of HCA. If you zoom in on the third line from the top, you see HCA. Had never heard of HCA until they bought my client’s Nursing College a couple years ago.
family holding a koala
This was supposed to be a Christmas present the day before. But i received it while bedridden on December 26. Had made a Disney’s Animal Kingdom reservation for Dec 26, optimistic my “cold” would be done.

What physical pain do you want in your life?

i’ll gladly take the pain of continuously doing the reps to have a body that thrives on moving, nutrition, and rest. Carving out time. Making sound choices versus easy ones with food and sleep.

What pain do you want to avoid?

i want to avoid the pain that stems from a lack of consistent effort to do the reps. The slothful, sedentary lifestyle habits that no one says enhances your present and longterm physical vibrancy.

Lean into discomfort, example

21-second 2020 video: Recorded this video maybe an hour before today’s previous MLC post’s video.

How we react to being alone and quiet measures our life’s quality. A ‘disappointment’ became a revelation.

When i couldn’t run without pain, the revelation eventually appeared.

i love running fast.

Thought i couldn’t let go of what i love.

But more than running fast, a revelation…

i simply love to run, at any speed.

And when that was not possible, the revelation appeared.

Pain is a neighbor

small pine tree with Disney 50th pin
Fun is finding an angle to create a sun reflection on the pin.

Pain is a neighbor.

Pain is back.

Not in either foot though.

Pain in the lower left calf (again).

Debilitating pain.

Excruciating pain.

Pain that will likely be a permanent part of life, for the rest of my life.

Grateful that walking is doable.

As we head into Summer 2022 (yes, it’s January 2023 as this publishes), the excitement for mountain hiking is fun to anticipate. Even after all these years, the thrill is still there.

Slow and steady

Pain-free run today. This 2.5 miles is part of a six-mile total cardio today.

Have slowed the pace and cut mileage by 50%.

Running every other day, three times a week. Bicycling twice a week on the non-run days. Rest on weekends.

See masseuse every 10 days or so for 90 minutes.

Perhaps consistently running pain-free will become a thing again.
