Lane 8 Update

Lane 8 update, Sunday morning.

I’m humbled by my own perseverance.

The hamstring strain from the Writer’s Retreat ten days ago, is still nagging me, and stifling the training intensity.

In a perfect world, where I’m at now, speed wise, is where I thought I’d be six months ago.

Perhaps this is a blessing for a reason I can’t comprehend.  I’m sure it is.  However, it currently feels like a big embarrassment.

What I’m the most grateful for though, is the gift of decision making.  I had to commit to Finland, or let it go.  When I committed back in May, I took a huge risk.

But the risk to not commit, would have been greater, I believe.  Regret is a dangerous thing, especially at mid-life.

My Family understands this.  It’s a great lesson our son is learning – about life, risk, regrets, goals, purpose, planning, balance, Family, etc.

While the trip is expensive in time and money, what we are learning as a Family – priceless.

Lane 8 Life’s A Beach

Lane 8 Life’s A Beach.

Last week I attended a Writer’s Retreat on Sanibel Island.  There was time built into the agenda, for free play. Here’s one of the things I did:

As you heard, I’m chasing an impossible, childhood dream.

Randy Pausch, author of The Last Lecture, died July 25, 2008.  He inspired millions with his message.

I posted a link to his You Tube video, Last Lecture, as well as added some of my own commentary at Mid Life Celebration.com

Crazy similarity, I’m not doing this for me, I’m doing it for my Family.

Carpe diem, jeff noel 🙂

It’s Hard to do Nothing

Resting.  Doing nothing.  It’s hard for me.  Difficult.

Yet, in the big picture, we all know rest is part of training.

Someday, I’ll be relaxed enough to enjoy not doing anything.  Right now though, it’s painful.

Sixteen days until Helsinki.

Yeeeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carpe diem, jeff noel  PS.   The past three days have been resting days – nursing a slight hamstring strain from our trip to the beach.  Heading out in a few minutes to go for an easy three miles with my CPA friend.  🙂

Lane 8 & Lance Armstrong?

Lane 8 and Lance Armstrong?

Tuesday, Lance Armstrong sent a Twitter message that he has reached 1.4 million followers.

He was amazed, considering there once was a time when it only took 14k to amaze him.

Do the math.  Compare 14,000 to 1,400,000.

Mind boggling.

I have ten Twitter followers currently.  I’ll be amazed if it ever hits 1,000.

There’s a part of me that believes, as Lane 8 blossoms, there will also be 1.4 million followers here.

Crazy?  Yes.  But once I roll out the next goal of Lane 8, I believe 1.4mil is actually a small number.

There’s a big plan to help make the world a better place.

Dream Big.  Get There.  Stay There.  Carpe diem, jeff noel 🙂

PS.  Just so we’re clear, I absolutely practice what I preach. 🙂

If Today Doesn’t Count

Not counting today, there are 18 days until I leave for Helsinki, Finland.

Representing the United States at the 2009 Master’s Track & Field World Championships is beyond anything I could have dreamed of.

Why?

Because, in the simplest explanation I can offer, it’s like the Biblical story of David and Goliath.

By the way, I’m in the role of David.  The total underdog.  That’s why this feels like a dream.

What makes this dream real is that the goal is impossible.  And I have never given up.

Make it a GREAT day, because if you don’t, who will?  If not today, when?  Carpe diem, jeff noel 🙂
