The goal is always lofty

Yesterday was Monday. Monday’s Wednesday’s and Friday’s are run days. Redundant. Glorious redundancy.

The goal is always lofty.

It’s human nature, with exceptions of course, to be competitive.

Survival of the fittest is as real as it gets in nature.

In our modern and civilized 2016-world, we still have strong DNA links to fight or flight.

While i do love the sense of accomplishment resulting from high achievement, i also enjoy the simple fact that being able to run at a slow pace with shorter distances is much more important than any world-class competition.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Can you approach today with joy?

Yesterday’s ride happened after a decent breakfast.

Can you approach today with joy?

Yes, it sounds like a stupid question.

Come to a full and complete stop at every stop sign?

Drive the speed limit?

Eat a healthy breakfast before rushing out the door.

Get some decent exercise before breakfast?

Silly now?

Yes, joyfully silly.

Running with no pain is insanely joyful

At 8am i texted my Cracker Barrel lunch partner, “i thought this said, no omelette.”

Running with no pain is insanely joyful. Yesterday’s 4.5 easy-pace miles were pain free.

To run pain free is better than competing at the highest Master’s level.

PS. Competing at the highest Master’s level is also insanely joyful.

Little unexpected bonuses from working hard

Airport departure sign
Second flight from top is ours. We had an hour to enjoy a sit-down breakfast.

Breakfast quality in Salt Lake’s airport was surprising decent. The 75-minute power nap on the first flight from Kalispel to Salt Lake City was also a blessing. Traveling all day is taxing. Eating well helps.

Ride Forrest, ride

Balance
Riding through Hyatt Grand Cypress Golf Course yesterday at sunrise.

Ride Forrest, ride.

The classic scene (51 seconds) from Forrest Gump is here.

One week of no bicycling made yesterday morning’s 25-mile roundtrip ride to Gold’s Gym and back extra special.

Ride jeff, ride.

It’s the little things.
