Each day contains a simple choice in the morning

Biking to Blind Pass.

Each day contains a simple choice in the morning.

Exercise or don’t exercise.

In the early years when we resolve to become active, it’s far too easy to revert back to our inactive selves.

Let’s assume we successfully push through that stage.

In later years however, after we’ve conquered inertia and made commitment a habit, it’s easier to take our long-term efforts for granted.

A slippery slope.

The long way is the short cut.

Become an example instead of a warning.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Note to self, keep moving forward

The run was a mess yesterday.

It happens.

Wasn’t going to let the setback set us back.

So i said, we’re going for a bike ride.

About 90 minutes later, we finished 16 miles.

The last five miles i amped up the pace, pushing the other athlete to keep up.

He responded well.

Ride Forrest, ride

Balance
Riding through Hyatt Grand Cypress Golf Course yesterday at sunrise.

Ride Forrest, ride.

The classic scene (51 seconds) from Forrest Gump is here.

One week of no bicycling made yesterday morning’s 25-mile roundtrip ride to Gold’s Gym and back extra special.

Ride jeff, ride.

It’s the little things.

Reminded why running is such a flexible choice

Reminded why running is such a flexible (and logical) exercise choice.

Running (and walking) is insanely portable.

First time away from home since i stopped running two months ago, and not being able to run is severely limiting. Have run for the last 17 years, no matter where i traveled to.

By the way, important to note that i began bicycling March 15, 60 days ago.

Why?

Because March 14 was the last running day.

Since running is off the table indefinitely, i could walk, but.

Yeah, there you have it.

Crazy how important those three mornings are

Crazy how important those three mornings are.

Monday.

Wednesday.

Friday.

Each morning there’s a 25-mile roundtrip bicycle ride to the gym. About an hour each way, plus an hour in the gym.

And each bicycle ride means an additional day of no running.

i really like accumulating an increasing number of “rest-from-running” days.

Biking is healing a part of my whole that would be suffering if there was no legitimate replacement for running.
