He was officially deceased

Coded as dead but alive to tell his story
Jim Brennan at Gold’s Gym Orlando (April 3, 2014 – last night)

Jim almost died. Well, he actually was dead for three minutes, but was miraculously revived.

Told him long ago that he is inspiring – we’ve been Gold’s Gym Orlando members for years.

What felt like only a month has been 18. He was in a coma for eight weeks and in a hospital for eight months.

Recovering.

A story that can not be told in this post at this time.

A brutal ordeal by any measure.

And insanely lucky to be alive.

And the doctors told him the only reason he didn’t die sooner was because he biked and swam, even while being 100+ pounds overweight.

Be as prepared as possible

Airport parking garage
Typical travel day is easily 12+ hours per day

Banking on yesterday’s slow five-mile run and a gym workout to pay dividends for the next four days of physical inactivity in Calgary.

Two long days of all day travel and two long days of classroom instruction.

This is how it goes.

Be as prepared as possible.

How often are we pushed far beyond our normal range?

Miami Beach Goggle map
Made a detour to grab an unplanned breakfast at Starbucks before the long walk back

How often are we pushed far beyond our normal range?

Not very.

From the hotel it seemed to be a mile and a half to the beach.

Turned out it was 3.6 miles. Haven’t run 7.2 miles in the past 30 years.

So walking the second half seemed like a nice compromise because of one thing.

Time.

There was last minute time in the morning that wasn’t filled with meetings.

It was a delightful indulgence.

A gift.
