Tied for longest continuous run

Sanibel Island thunderstorm
We see what we want to see.

Yesterday morning’s run was 1.5 miles.

By my standards, barely worth it.

By my running partner’s standards, it tied for his longest continuous run ever.

The long way is the short cut.

We see what we want to see.

Insignificance or significance.

Every choice has the same opportunity, even the ones that are routine.

Why?

Because our routine defines us.

Changing it is literally impossible.

Only an indomitable will to change will bring about change.

Anything less will allow excuses to grow and fester, and eventually win.

When our excuses win, we lose.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Is being healthy enough to be virtuous?

Is being healthy enough to be virtuous?

Maybe.

If being healthy implies we are in control of what we eat, how much we sleep, and how regularly we exercise.

Then maybe.

How many times in one practice can we want to quit?

We got there early. Intentionally.

His shirt, and everyone’s shirt, was soaked.

How many times in one practice can we want to quit?

At least a dozen.

But he didn’t.

One day at a time is more than a theory.

It may be the only successful way to persevere for a lifetime.

The long way is the short cut.

Revolving my schedule around this small Summer opportunity

Two former Disney Institute Facilitators
Bob and i began exercising together in 1999. Photo: Four days ago at Disney University.

Revolving my schedule around this small Summer opportunity.

In an hour (at 6:40am) we’ll drive to the High School for our fourth Runner’s Club workout.

Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7am.

The club is made up mostly of Middle and High School Cross Country runners.

And there’s one dad that also participates, as well as a college-bound freshman who graduated a few weeks ago.

Changing Doctor appointments, business meetings and anything else that will conflict with this new Summer commitment.

While it’s a small endeavor, it could become life altering.

Photo above: Those two started out exercising together in 1999, it was only three weeks before one’s schedule threw him a curve. It’s been 17 years and counting for the other.
