Let’s make “SYDK” a category, body

Dear Son, the blog category ‘dear son’ is on all five blog websites.

What you probably don’t know is that everything i write could start with, “Dear Son,”.

Everything.

Small example…

Dear Son, you don’t remember me being unfit. What really happened though is after you were born i committed to getting and staying physically vibrant. The commitment’s ‘streak’ is closer to 30 years than 20.

And it was especially challenging in the moments and the years when i was tempted to pause, or worse, quit.

But…

Never paused.

Never quit.

From this was born, “Find a million ways to stay motivated.”

Shit you didn’t know, body

Dear Son,

Shit you didn’t know…

How could you?

You were just a kid.

What you didn’t know is…

How being your dad inspired and guided everything i did (and why i did it)…

Like getting and staying healthy even with a new career (speaker), frequent travel, and a history of health peaks and valleys. Because when i started at Disney Institute at 40, it was the same year i received a health ‘wake-up call’.

You’ll never recall me being unfit. Why? Because i began a physical vibrancy journey that’s now 26 years old and counting.

Physically better than me

Getting better someday is a lie. Someday never shows up.

dad

Skipping one day makes skipping a second day easier. Skipping two days makes skipping a third day easy. Skipping four, or five days makes skipping forever almost guaranteed. Conversely the opposite is true. Do something one day, it’s easier to do it the next day. Doing it three, four, or five days, makes not skipping almost guaranteed.

i hope you never forget how you started the season and how you finished it.

For a first-year runner who never wanted to run, this is an incredible time. Congratulations.

Fix your physical self-talk.

Remember when you first started running high school cross-country? You thought you could never finish a 5k without walking. How’d that work out the last meet of the season?

You’re as healthy

You’re as healthy as you want to be.

Harsh?

Reality?

Probably.

Well, wait. Yes.

Harsh reality.

Whatever happens next is up to you.

Your decisions determine your health habits.

Son, you have everything you need.
