Be grateful for slow progress

It’s pitch black at 6am when practice starts. This is just before sunrise.

Be grateful for slow progress. He is the slowest High School runner on the team. He’s been running for nine months. This morning he ran for 35 minutes without stopping. This is astronomical progress even if it’s a slow pace.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

This kind of schedule is preparation for balancing life

Notes from meeting
Notes from Parents Cross Country meeting four days ago.

He missed the entire first week of Cross Country practice because he was on a family vacation in Glacier National Park.

Monday and Friday practices will be 6:00-7:30am.

Yikes.

Because of the sub-tropical heat, Tuesday and Thursday practices will be after school, but late after school, 6:00-7:30pm. And Wednesday will be strength training form 5:30-7:00pm.

This is going to be a significant challenge not only physically, but from a balance perspective as well.

There’s a new, second reason why i drive to run

Historically, the only time i drive to run is for a 5k race.

But we left the house at 5:40am this morning to drive to a Saturday High School Cross Country practice. That’s a new reason to drive to run – being part of a team.

Otherwise, i’m not a fan of driving to run. Time is precious.

PS. The 16-year old (as of yesterday) set two PR’s this morning:

  1. Longest continuous run time at 31:30.
  2. Longest distance without walking at 2.5 miles.

New PR for running duration

What is possible is often a script we write in our head. What is impossible is also a script.

A logo with a Castle theme and fireworks is not impossible.

Of course it’s difficult, and this will never change

Of course it’s difficult and this will never change. Better to accept it and live with the never-ending effort required to get and stay healthy than deny it and live with that.
