The closer to death, body

berries, nuts, avocado, cheese
Much of our focus and discipline is invisible to others. But it is never invisible to yourself.

The closer to you get to death, the less you care what others think about the way you stayed, or didn’t stay, healthy.

Why?

Because you’ll be dead soon and nothing will matter.

Olympic Gold

This photo and the story behind it is how this blog got its URL (https://lane8.org). Photo: 2009 in Lahti, Finland at the 2009 Masters Track and Field World Championships.

If your goal isn’t impossible, you’re not reaching high enough.

Note: Olympic Gold and the audacity to pursue it is part of the DNA i’m brainstorming for my LinkedIn profile.

Morning water routine

red water bottle on a desk
This morning. Filled with water just waiting for me to enjoy. Hydration is a pervasively under-focused on health habit.

Every morning, i walk down the hall from our bedroom after waking and sit at my desk to begin the day.

My red water bottle always gets filled the night before and is waiting for me at the desk. No need to wait even a minute to start hydrating for the day. It could be 30 to 60 minutes before i go downstairs.

The over-focused process makes 5:00am-hydrating a daily ritual.

It’s a small, and kind, health gesture made to myself that compounds into other over-focused health habits and rituals.

Be good to yourself.

Honor the temple housing everything keeping you alive.
