Ordinary gifts day 3, body

If You Can Remember Well, Count Your Blessings

Everyday is a bright sunny day, if we live with constant gratitude
Nursing Home room
The emotions and thoughts from sitting here run from joy to sadness, from gratitude to confusion. Note:This is a nursing home room, double occupancy.

Why are ordinary gifts important?

Why?

You’re kidding, right?

Ordinary gifts, like oxygen, sunlight, hunger.

Make sense now?

Then add on some more, like…

Sight.

Sound.

Touch.

Empathy.

Ambition.

Humility.

Fall In Love With The Daily Gift of Being Alive

What are ordinary gifts?

Ordinary gifts are as common as laughter, smiling, and honesty.

And as common as belief, trust, fun.

Even as simple as someone who can tell you they love you just by the way they look back at you when you’re looking at them.

Ordinary gifts?

Yes.

What are ordinary gifts from your experience and perspective?

They arrive every single day.

Roof over my head.

Clean drinking water.

Clean shirt.

Indoor plumbing.

Electricity.

Food in the kitchen.

My iPhone.

My desire to write five daily, differently-themed blog posts.

The wild places, body

Spring Grove, PA welcome sign
Photo from years ago when i was still able to run. My Small town, USA. My creek, barn, and “woods” is a mile or two from this welcome sign.

Why do you love the wild places?

From an early age, nature and all of Pennsylvania’s wild things, bugs, flowers, birds, creek critters, fish – all of it mesmerized me.

Inexplicably felt blessed by this before ever learning what a blessing is.

As i grew closer to 10 years old, i started walking further from home.

Why?

To get to the creek across the corn field.

To get to the barn across the two-lane country road (highway).

And to get to the woods well past the corn field’s creek and up the hill through another corn field. The ‘Woods” as we called this small (couple, three acres, maybe) un-plowable patch of land, full of trees, brush, rocks, and creatures untold.

Family epiphany, body

healthy eating
Common sense can be rare. Look at your own habits.

Family epiphany?

Yes.

But it’s an uneducated, unscientific, unproven observation…

To me, my amateur epiphany is that many ‘hereditary’ physical ailments are magnified because of hereditary lifestyle habits.

My family tree signals overweight and obesity.

i imagine if i didn’t change my ‘hereditary’ lifestyle, i’d be obese, on a menu of prescription medicines, and dealing with the side effects, etc.
