Rain check please

Grinnell Glacier hike 2019
Grinnell Glacier hike 2019.

Rain check please.

Yesterday’s 30-mile Disney bicycle ride was cancelled.

We (Orlando) needed an all-day rain.

More rain this afternoon.

The early bird gets the worm.

Sunrise is 6:50 AM.

Hoping to be in the saddle by then.

The flywheel is spinning

Months ago i bicycled to Disney’s Animal Kingdom (DAK) and parked here while enjoying a few hours inside DAK.

Today’s 30-miler should be the easiest one in recent history.

Why?

Because 30 miles a day is becoming the norm.

It feels good.

Really, really good.

Ride Skipper Ride

Ride Skipper Ride.

COVID-19 continues to leave us guessing about the future.

Meanwhile, it’s incumbent on each of us to not guess about our future.

Bicycling three times a week for 30 miles per trip is fun.

This experience reminds me how i used to bike 30 miles a day, everyday, to get to work.

Will i revive 150 miles per week from 35 years ago?

Does it even make sense?

Can a 60-year old do what a 25-year old did?

Why not?

Fun.

Spring Fever?

Disney’s PhotoPass Cast Member created some Magical Moments by spending time with us because we had a fever?

Spring Fever?

Of course.

It’s part of Nature’s way.

Nature has been doing things for much longer than humans have roamed the earth.

Nature knows what it is doing.

Humans work hard to tame the savage beast.

But killing is how a carnivore lives.

COVID-19 reminds a lot of people how lifestyle is like a carnivore on the prowl for a meal.

A distracted lifestyle is exactly what a carnivore looks for first when hungry.

Yes, Nature can be brutal.

And in a way, we can be brutal to ourselves.

150 miles every week

Biked from Disney’s North border to Celebration Place.

When we returned permanently to Orlando in 1984, we owned one car.

My first Disney role as River Country Lifeguard required a 36-mile roundtrip bicycle ride from our apartment in Kissimmee.

The second role in Resort Hotel Operations mandated a 30-mile one-way bike ride from Poinciana to Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

Only completed the Poinciana roundtrip version once. Sixty miles plus an 8.5-hour shift, meant i left Magic Kingdom at 12:20AM and biked through the night arriving home at 2:45AM.

Grateful to have had a neighbor who worked the same 4PM – Midnight shift with the same days off, and had a pickup truck i could throw my bicycle into and catch a ride home 5 nights a week.
