Running trumps the gym

Balance and wellness keynote speakers
This blog is about our body, the temple housing everything keeping us alive.

Running trumps the gym. When my schedule, or energy, allows for only one, i default to running. Probably because i don’t have to drive a car to accomplish it.

Hopefully, a gym workout will fit into today’s normal “rest” mode.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

This website is about our physical health. To easily and safely leave this site to read today’s post on jeff’s spiritual health website, click here.

Temptation. Should we or shouldn’t we?

We need filters.

Filters come from vision and purpose.

Ran a half-marathon two days ago, Friday. Could run another tomorrow (Monday) morning.

But should we just because we can?

Identify and fight the temptations

Orlando, Keynote, Speakers

(photo: Yesterday’s run was one hour. Followed by a 10-minute cool-down walk. Never made it to the gym though.)

At lunch yesterday, the friend said he’s gained 60 pounds.

His life is hard.

(Shhh, don’t want anyone to feel bad, but everyone’s life is hard.)

Try to imagine being asked to permanently carry a 60-pound back pack. Twenty-four seven.

Until we want something as desperately as our next breath, it ain’t gonna happen. Not the impossible stuff anyway.

Figure it out.

This isn’t a cruel statement, it’s truth.

We are the CEO of our life.

Attitude helps us manage temptation

Lane 8.org old website header

(photo: This website’s early header… a photo taken from a phone… dream big, get there, and most importantly, stay there)

Attitude helps us manage temptation.

Attitude can also change on a dime when the pressures to stay fit tempt us to cut something out of our schedule.

And exercise seems to be the first thing we can stop when our lives are overloaded with time commitments.

Not exercising when we know it to be a non-negotiable, feels like lying.

Temptation lurks everywhere

iPhone stopwatch mile time
Can a 55-year old run one mile in 5:11?

Ever feel like you’ve finally overcome the last of a long list of set backs only to get the subtle feeling a new, unexpected set back is brewing?

Achilles tendon has been sore for three weeks.

Just as the intensity was amping up for comeback 2014.

Coincidence?

What should do we do when temptation lurks everywhere?
