New Balance

New Balance Running Shoes have been in my life since 1977 when i started at West Chester State College in Pennsylvania. Photo: writing one of my Disney business books on an iPhone at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort a few years back.

I sometimes think that running has given me a glimpse of the greatest freedom a man can ever know, because it results in the simultaneous liberation of both mind and body. The runner does not know how or why he runs. He only knows that he must run. We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves.

This is what i was taking a photo of (pictured above).

Visiting Pre’s Rock yesterday morning reminded me how much one person who .thinks .differently can change the landscape of an industry – in Pre’s case, running.

Remember, changing the world doesn’t mean the entire world, it means your world.

Time to return to running?

Exquisite cake from the world-famous Grand Floridian bakery. It’s been two years (?) since i’ve eaten cake. In a perfect world, i’ll never eat cake again. Eat about five apples a day though, so it balances out.

Time to return to running?

Well, if ever there was a good time to restart:

  • After a three year “foot-rest”
  • Cheryl makes her own work schedule now
  • An Olympic year
  • Why not?

29 mailboxes a day for a week

Assume 1,600 meters for a mile, or 16 mailboxes.

Began this week (yesterday, Monday, Memorial Day) running 29 mailboxes a day. We will repeat this today through Friday.

This is the start of our 40th week.

The math says for 11 weeks, we didn’t add a mailbox. The weeks we didn’t add, we just duplicated the previous week’s total mailbox’s.

Eleven “mailboxes” equal 1,100 meters – almost 3/4 of a mile.

Son, please bank on slow and steady winning the race.

While we may”only” be at 29 mailboxes for 40 weeks, we have been waking up early and hitting it for 40 continuous weeks.

The real metric is not distance, it’s hidden in the habit transformation.

Stop Pre

Steve Prefontaine at one time owned every American running record from 1,000 meters, 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters. His competitors made shirts like this…it never worked. They are legendary and currently available at U of Oregon’s bookstore.

Your body is a gift. Please don’t sacrifice it.
