Will i have the guts to use this example?

Talking to a room full of health care leaders, will they be able to see past the example to allow the point to sink in?

When it comes to health and wellness there are seven areas for world-class results:

  1. Cardio
  2. Strength
  3. Nutrition
  4. Rest
  5. Core
  6. Flexibility
  7. Motivation

i will challenge them to discern which of the seven is most important.

Why?

Because the answer applies to what they do as leaders.

Yesterday’s 5k results for 50-59 age group.

 

At 55 he wondered if he could run as fast or maybe even faster than when he was 45.

Like a zealot, and although he had never done this, he ran the entire course as a warmup prior to the race.

He should have saved his energy. Conserved his resources for the big event.

His goal was to run the 22:10 he ran 10 years prior. His actual result was 21:50.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

We know this.

For example, it’s not uncommon for some of us to put a decent amount of thought and risk evaluation into making scary decisions.

What if we avoided the committee in our head and just did stuff?

Have learned a fascinating truth. Nearly all fear is imagined.

In essence, fear is rarely justifiable.

In reality, it’s nearly nonexistent once we have evaluated it after the fact.

Chasing an impossible dream is a healthy alternative to not chasing one. In the spirit of dreaming, excellence, fun, and joy, what would happen if we upped the quality of our wellness goals while lowering the quantity?

Only exercising three times a week.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are duel workout days. Running and gym. The effort is deliberate and intense. The frequency is low.

This may change everything.

Nationals are in 100 days.

Is aging a time for us to slow down and get a really decent La-Z-Boy chair to call our throne?

If we subscribe to the notion of following the norm – and not rocking the boat so to speak – then no one will ever discover that exceptional health can be achieved and maintained for life.

Pushing the limits of what’s possible into the stereotypical unknown and impossible realm is a trait that Walt Disney embedded in the DNA of his organization. And Walt expected this from every single person in his organization.

The acorn does’t fall far from the tree.
