No one outside of Disney wants to believe this

Disney Institute Keynote Speaker
Mastery, or perceived mastery, only comes from being intentional where others are unintentional or oblivious.

Somewhere around 2003, i remember Lenn Millbower and Debbie Zmorenski – two passionate Disney Institute colleagues – were having a breakroom conversation about the Atkins diet.

Neither of them included me in their conversation.

i asked them why they didn’t involve me.

They said, “You don’t need to worry about your weight.”

i humbly replied, “i worry about my weight every day, maybe that’s why it seems i don’t.”

PS. Mary Flynn – one of Disney Institute’s all-time great storytellers, a colleague, author, and wise friend – is the originator of the original version of the quote above. i added the word “hard” to her original version, so i can’t take any credit for the original vibe. i will suggest, however, that i was the catalyst for making it a household phrase at Disney Institute.

Enough already, stop

Parkland High students ion Time Magazine
Enough of the poor eating. Take a stand. Eliminate poor foods. For good. Photo from Twitter yesterday.

In two more clicks you’ll be at jungle jeff – the work blog – and when you get there you’ll see a post more closely themed to here, Lane 8.

The reason the content is there and not here is simple.

While i compartmentalize mind-body-spirit-work-hq in five distinct website blogs, the reality is quite compelling – everything we do influences everything else we do.

Meanwhile, this morning’s thought here is this: i’m eating like i mean it to improve my health.

Which is the paradox of “diets to lose weight to be more healthy”. Diets require unattractive restrictions, unnatural eating habits, avoidance of certain foods you have loved eating your entire life, like sweets.

i gave up processed sugar but i did not give up sweets.

What the?

Fresh fruits.

i eat a ton of it, daily.

Wellness is a virus

USATF official gear
Arrived a few days ago. Running shorts. Official USATF – United States of America Track & Field – gear. Weirdly, i wear running shorts when i bike.

Wellness is a virus.

The word virus is associated with a negative, bad situation.

Computer virus.

She has a virus and has been admitted into the hospital.

We think detrimental and or dangerous when we think virus.

But what if the “unstoppable” and “results” of a virus were used in a positive way?

She has a wellness virus – she just keeps getting healthier.

Changes the way we think doesn’t it?

Is our thinking enough to change our habits?

Where do you see yourself?

Best Disney Institute Speakers
As a Disney Institute participant, i was asked to walk through Disney’s Hollywood Studios with my tablemates and photograph Magic.

i’m one of the slowest people in the world.

i’m one of the fastest people in the world.

Which one is true?

They’re both true.

How?

In the middle (think bell curve) of an age-based runner demographic of 55 to 59-year-olds, i’m one of the fastest.

But if we followed a traditional bell curve to the far right, and compared my speed to the outliers – the strongest and most fit 55 to 59 year-olds – i’m one of the slowest.

#Self-Reflection

Be careful where you set your bar. It may be too low.

A low bar has a direct and proportion affect on our motivation to achieve great things.

Our motivation influences our result.

You’re welcome.

Education is a dance of comfort and discomfort

college walking tour
Walked 10 miles day one, and walked 5 miles yesterday.

Education is a dance of comfort and discomfort.

That’s what the assistant admissions director said.

It makes sense.

And it’s a context-neutral insight, meaning it applies to everything and everyone.

For example…

Wellness is a dance between comfort and discomfort.

Think about it.

And more importantly, do something about it.

Go.
