You know how people can tell if you’re committed to wellness?

Disney Springs
Disney Springs yesterday.

Disney movies
We watched A Wrinkle In Time yesterday at Disney’s AMC Theater complex at Disney Springs.

Let your wellness light shine brightly.

You are a beacon for others.

You are so deserving of the vibrancy you feel.

You find solace in your commitment to over-focus on your wellness compared to the way you used to under-focus on it, or ignore it completely.

You know how people can tell if you’re committed to wellness?

The same way people can tell if a business is committed to their wellness.

Metrics.

Basic business measurements.

In this case, it’s health metrics instead of business metrics.

The basics..

Resting heart rate.

Cholesterol.

Triglycerides.

Blood pressure.

Touch your toes.

How many pull ups, push ups, and sit ups can you do?

Walk 4-5 flights of stairs – how soon does your heart rate return to normal.

Do you lose your patience easily?

What are the main beverages you consume daily?

Do you use a snooze button to wake up?

How many calories do you get daily from processed foods?

How many grams of sugar do you consume daily?

How much water do you consume daily?

When was the last time you exercised consistently for five continuous years?

The list goes on and on.

You get the picture.

i never mentioned weight.

Why would i?

It doesn’t matter what a person weighs..

What matters are answers to the questions here.

Hope, care, cure

Mission statement
Random moment walking through an airport yesterday.

Mission statement
That goal. Your goal? Lifelong remission from exercise?

Bold goal.

Lifelong remission.

For cancer, it’s a God-send.

For exercise, it’s a premature death sentence.

Clarity comes only through deep self-reflection.

Note: Sometimes clarity arrives in the form of a severe wake-up call.

Education is a dance of comfort and discomfort

college walking tour
Walked 10 miles day one, and walked 5 miles yesterday.

Education is a dance of comfort and discomfort.

That’s what the assistant admissions director said.

It makes sense.

And it’s a context-neutral insight, meaning it applies to everything and everyone.

For example…

Wellness is a dance between comfort and discomfort.

Think about it.

And more importantly, do something about it.

Go.

Eat like you mean it

Healthy lunch
Yesterday’s lunch.

Eat like you mean it.

We all have to decide what’s worth defending.

For example, our health as we age.

And then we have to decide how hard we’ll work, how much longer we’ll work at it, and what we’ll do to change our daily habits that are driven by temptation and lack of focus (read weakness).

Go.

Yes, it can be overbearing

Chick-fil-a tables
Real plants or flowers are always on every table. Unusual for a fast-food restaurant. Stopped in to get a cup of water because i forgot a water bottle on a bike ride.

Chick-fil-a tables
Context. My cup of water. Live plants. Not necessary, but done anyway. Obsessive? Overbearing for the Owner to scale year-round?

Chick-fil-a tables
Context. Yes, every table.

The reason you must be 100% committed, focused, and disciplined is because everything we do is a habit.

There are few among us who can do a random, whenever-i-feel-like-it effort and get excellent results.

Simple example…

Floss your teeth every night?

It’s either a yes or a no.

Daily flossing (and i recommend after dinner/before bed) is obviously going to keep our gums cleaner than if we don’t do it daily.

To not floss daily is to not have excellence as a standard.

Yes, it can be overbearing.

When you spend a lifetime at a company like Disney, you understand overbearing is the DNA for greatness.

This is the tip of the iceberg and i don’t feel like going any further right now.
