Today begins run-one-mailbox-a-day-for a week

Swimming pool float
Took this photo yesterday to text Cheryl a question about our pool floats.

Today begins “run-one-mailbox-a-day-for a week”.

Why?

The rest-break from running has been 19 months – 18 months longer than intended, and it’s time to see if the rest worked.

Years of chronic foot pain prompted a last ditch effort to try a remedy (prolonged rest) i had never attempted.

Just came back from a super slow jog from our mailbox to our neighbor’s mailbox – roughly 100 meters.

PS. Today is opening day for the 2018 Masters Track and Field National Championships in Spokane, Washington.

Coincidence?

No.

Walking may be healing my feet

Biking Going to the Sun Road
Biking Going to the Sun Road June 2018…more on this in future posts.

Walking may be healing my feet.

Looking forward to this morning’s four-mile roundtrip walk to the gym.

Too early to know for sure, but it feels like abandoning the bicycle and walking 9-12 miles (just to & from the gym) a week is doing something important for my feet.

Take the shoe-leather express

Louisville riverfront
Passed two news vehicles on the four-mile walk to work yesterday.

Louisville sunrise
Room service delivery arrived later yesterday, so the sun was higher than the day before when i reached this spot.

Take the shoe-leather express.

Also known as walking.

On top of consecutive days of long walking commutes, work involved six-plus hours of classroom standing.

It was quietly exhilarating to push myself to this rare extreme.

And the day-dream of spending a summer doing daily hikes through Glacier National Park was alive and well.

Will 2017 be the year of a definitive diagnosis?

Will 2017 be the year of a definitive diagnosis?

Chronic lower right calf and right ankle pain has never been diagnosed.

i’d like to change that.

i will change it.

So i start 2017 by pushing harder for the answer.

Seven months of zero to low mileage got tested

Wellness journey
Yesterday, first time in seven months running five miles… 8.03kilometers equals 5 miles.

Seven months of zero to low mileage.

Stopped running entirely in April and May.

The only reason i began running this summer was to help our son, you know, easy, 10-12 minutes per mile, one, two miles at most.

When he joined the Cross-Country team in August, i continued running two to three miles – three times a week – because the running was pain-free. The reason i stopped running was simple. It was painful.

Wanted to try one last ditch thing to eradicate chronic right ankle/calf pain.

i planned (and was excited to know it would be a 2016 milestone) to run five miles and the pace was slow enough to remain pain-free, and just enjoy the privilege.
