The only reason i began running this summer was to help our son, you know, easy, 10-12 minutes per mile, one, two miles at most.
When he joined the Cross-Country team in August, i continued running two to three miles – three times a week – because the running was pain-free. The reason i stopped running was simple. It was painful.
Wanted to try one last ditch thing to eradicate chronic right ankle/calf pain.
i planned (and was excited to know it would be a 2016 milestone) to run five miles and the pace was slow enough to remain pain-free, and just enjoy the privilege.

Each morning there’s a 25-mile roundtrip bicycle ride to the gym. About an hour each way, plus an hour in the gym.
And each bicycle ride means an additional day of no running.
i really like accumulating an increasing number of “rest-from-running” days.
Biking is healing a part of my whole that would be suffering if there was no legitimate replacement for running.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Ran 9.5 miles yesterday morning and then headed to podiatrist to have a tiny buildup removed from the ball of my foot. Because the pain only began a week ago, i took care of it before it affected running.

Note: i’m prepared to abandon what i’ve done for 12 years in an effort to discover if there’s a breakthrough that could happen by letting go of what i think i’m supposed to do (and have done).
Booked a checkup with my podiatrist yesterday while waiting at LAX for an 8am departure to Walt Disney World. Why share this when no one cares about our mundane details?
To remind myself how important our mundane details are. Otherwise it’s incredibly enticing to believe our mundane isn’t important.
It will be a week before i can see Dr Wagner, the earliest available.
The tiny cyst can cause excruciating pain. Hopefully it won’t debilitate my running before it’s removed. Also want Dr Wagner’s advice on eliminating custom orthotics after 12+ years.
