Easier To Just Give Up?

So things are humming along nicely. Running six-minute miles at will. Little to no pain in left foot. Core is stronger than every (in 51 years no less).

August 2011 the Masters Track & Field World Championships will be on American soil. This could be a great year to run injury-free.

Amazing feeling!

And then two weeks ago, a startling pain in my right calf. Out of nowhere, and apparently for no reason.

Have tried rest, extra slow running, and yesterday, simply walking. A far cry from a world-class regime.

Yep, it would definitely be easier to just give up. How familiar are you with this feeling?

  2. Know the remedy?
  3. Take action?
  4. For as long as it takes?

We all have to deal with the aging process. I’m only an expert in the first 50 years. Those older, undoubtedly are wiser, because they are more experienced.

Would love for a few of them to caution me (us), as well as give me (us) hope, on what to expect.

What good does complaining do? Does it make the complainer shine like a beacon of hope for others? Does it inspire people to give their absolute best?

You know, sometimes it might. Complaints can put things in the spotlight that may otherwise get swept under the rug. But it’s rare that complaining has a positive outcome.

Mostly, it just sounds like an excuse and a defense mechanism to shroud our fear of success.

Haven’t run in 7 days. Haven’t been to the gym in six. Pathetic.

Except for one thing. I get the opportunity to do them both. Today. How glorious is that? The woman in the photo perhaps can only dream of missing a week of exercise.
