Day one of the 2015 Masters Track & Field Outdoor National Championships were held yesterday. Here’s the M55 800 meter race on video.

Nine runners. i was planning on being last. Mission accomplished.

Was there triumph in being last? Yes, the fact there was no calf or ankle pain.

Reminder, the front runners are our Nation’s best 800 meter runners. Had they not be so remarkably fast, i wouldn’t have looked so remarkably slow.

Progress and wisdom are a dynamic duo

Carried an iPhone/stopwatch in both races.

Saturday’s track meet had several firsts, including one that is significant:

No soreness and no pain from overdoing it.

Not that evening. Not yesterday. Not now.

This is huge.

Progress.

Wisdom.

PS. For a 56 year old to run a single event with a time like that could create some stiffness. To do both on the same day, almost guaranteed soreness.

To add meaning to the preparation

America's best wellness speaker
Today starts the 2015 Prefontaine Classic. Tomorrow is the 23rd Central Florida Glider’s meet. It’s also marks 30 years since Pre’s tragic car accident.

What is your personal brand? Does it even cross your mind?

Would people label you active or inactive. Healthy or not really?

These types of questions are not for everyone. Totally get that. But it cannot be a reason to not ask.

And just because an alarming percentage of Americans are not active, does not mean that society believes this is acceptable.

Do you?

During tomorrow’s competition, the goal is not to win a race, even though there’s a possibility. The goal is to have all the preparation have meaning – something to look forward to, to celebrate.
