One Family running one mailbox a day

One of the first things you see on the Red Bus tour from Lake McDonald Lodge.

One Family running one mailbox a day.

That’s us.

Yesterday was day two.

The goal is always lofty

Yesterday was Monday. Monday’s Wednesday’s and Friday’s are run days. Redundant. Glorious redundancy.

The goal is always lofty.

It’s human nature, with exceptions of course, to be competitive.

Survival of the fittest is as real as it gets in nature.

In our modern and civilized 2016-world, we still have strong DNA links to fight or flight.

While i do love the sense of accomplishment resulting from high achievement, i also enjoy the simple fact that being able to run at a slow pace with shorter distances is much more important than any world-class competition.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Seven months of zero to low mileage got tested

Wellness journey
Yesterday, first time in seven months running five miles… 8.03kilometers equals 5 miles.

Seven months of zero to low mileage.

Stopped running entirely in April and May.

The only reason i began running this summer was to help our son, you know, easy, 10-12 minutes per mile, one, two miles at most.

When he joined the Cross-Country team in August, i continued running two to three miles – three times a week – because the running was pain-free. The reason i stopped running was simple. It was painful.

Wanted to try one last ditch thing to eradicate chronic right ankle/calf pain.

i planned (and was excited to know it would be a 2016 milestone) to run five miles and the pace was slow enough to remain pain-free, and just enjoy the privilege.

Life’s priorities come in strange packages

We ran together for the first time since Cross Country started six weeks ago.

Yesterday’s easy-pace 5k around the neighborhood was only his third 5k without walking. The first two were in competitions. He finished last and third from last, respectively.

i told him how much he inspires me because he doesn’t quit. Of all his teammates, i believe he has the most reasons to want to quit.

The priority is developing the awareness, the desire, and the commitment to reap the benefits from an active versus inactive lifestyle.

Running with no pain is insanely joyful

Disney runner jeff noel
At 8am i texted my Cracker Barrel lunch partner, “i thought this said, no omelette.”

Running with no pain is insanely joyful. Yesterday’s 4.5 easy-pace miles were pain free.

To run pain free is better than competing at the highest Master’s level.

PS. Competing at the highest Master’s level is also insanely joyful.
