Totally missed the mark last night.

Most of my life i used an easy “fix” for a crazy-busy schedule (which is a daily occurrence).

Morning coffee.

Over time, what i created (and possibly you too) was a lifelong habit of sleep deprivation.

And over time, to keep up the “energy” during the day, i’d drink mid-day caffeine too.

The antidote that works for me is eight hours of sleep and a meaningful life-purpose.

10 is the most i ever want to do

The 10-day break was intentional.

 

Ten days away from the gym, or running, is the most i want to do.

Last week at the Writer’s Retreat, i ran and biked, but no gym. All intentional.

Good to be back at Gold’s yesterday.

Having fun. Adult learners are easily bored and distracted. i have a millions ways to ensure it never happens.

 

i always tried to run before heading to the venue. Often, it was freezing outside. Over the years, i learned to plan my rest days for that week to coincide with the teaching days at University of Iowa.

i also plan my speeches to be full of interaction and state changes.

First skipped workout in a long time

First skipped workout in a long time. And it’s intentional.

Had an all day full-body gardening workout yesterday.

Not sore with stiffness, but sore as in tired muscle groups, all of them. Rest is a good choice today.

To deny this feels unnatural

To deny this feels unnatural.

How’s the daily routine?

A daily, regular and intentional bedtime?

A daily, regular and intentional rise-and-shine time?

Health benefits that pay long-term dividends.

The ability to awaken without hitting the snooze?

The excitement for the gift of another day?

Of course this isn’t possible everyday. Life happens. But fight, daily, to create and sustain a healthy daily routine.

Otherwise we’ll be fighting daily to compensate for an unhealthy daily routine.
