What if it feels like we will never make progress again?

Orange County Convention Center
Everyday is a bright sunny day, if we live with constant gratitude

When it seems there hasn’t been any progress for a long time and maybe there never will be any progress again – what do we do next?

Well, when we work diligently and with great patience and effort we eventually do make progress.

How can we not?

It (almost always) never happens in the time frame we wish for.

Haven’t seen this morning’s weight on the scale in over two years.

Never thought it would take this long to get back.

The long way is the short cut.

A long list of excuses is easy

Google maps on iPhone
The return route was different and added 14 more miles

Obstacles. Road blocks. Walls. Injuries. Pain. Temptation. Impatience. Frustration.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg on the long list of excuses to quit.

Foot challenges.

A decade and then some.

Invisible to 99.99%.

Foot pain was too intense to run.

Rode bike 25 miles instead.

To Church and back.

Posts like this one carry a hidden, embedded message – don’t quit

John Updike quote
Thrivers thrive because of their unrelenting creativity

Am leaning towards casually shooting for the 100-miles-in-a-month challenge.

Setbacks are merely opportunities to extend the comeback.

Have missed three track meets so far this year.

In January, those big meets seemed realistic – until the setbacks.

What happens when we refuse to quit?

What happens when we refuse to quit? Magic.

What happens when we refuse to quit?

Progress is made.

Finally down, and staying down, five pounds.

Still have six or seven to go before competition.

Man does it feel good.

Know the feeling?

Been waiting on this for nearly two years. Thought it would take two months.

When is it ok to give up on our wellness?

Windermere, Florida Run Among the Lakes 5k 2014
Ten years ago this event was the first 5k ever

A decade ago, the first 5k was run in 22:10.

Real life in real time…

Preparation for yesterday’s 5k felt completely out of synch. One very slow, freezing, 30-minute jog in Winnipeg in the past week.

Arrived for the 5k and didn’t even feel like warming up.

So the bar was set low – running 22:10 seemed like a fair goal.

Windermere, Florida Run Among the Lakes 5k 2014
Goal 22:10, actual 22:06 (7:07 average mile pace)
