The difference between exercise strategy and exercise tactics

Middle school classroom
Kids run everywhere, even in a classroom.

Remember how as kids how we would run versus walk, even across a classroom?

What do you look forward to on a daily basis?

Many think runners absolutely love to run. Yes, and…

Yes, and they do not feel like this everyday, nor are they exempt from all the time pressures everyone faces.

Try to hate running?

Middle school classroom cat

(photo: How did one stray cat become so lucky to have a middle school classroom to call home?)

Baby Boomers must manage their own luck.

Hope you get to the point where you hate running. Because when you do, you’ll know you love it.

If this sounds confusing it’s because it sort of is. Until you understand that it’s not.

What starts out as a groove, say running, eventually becomes a rut. No one likes ruts. And you have to love something in order to climb out of the rut and thrive again.

Like all worthwhile things in life, lifetime motivation to not quit (running in this example) is key.

But she struggles.

And no one knows.

She wants to quit.

It becomes a have to do, a need to do, not a get to do.

This is truth and when we feel like her, plow through it.

Anything…

But do not quit!

This is a big miss for many of us

Mid Life Celebration book
Confidence and insecurity are cousins.

What if running, or any activity we engage in, became part of who we are?

Even to the point of becoming a fanatic.

Perhaps even an all or nothing proposition.

This is a big miss for many of us.

What if we became fans of our own game?

What if we became our own biggest fan?

Just yesterday, they were talking as I walked up, “I hate him”. And they both laughed.

They were “kidding” as they talked about how fit I am. It’s simply the reality that makes up my day. I’ve come to understand that it will probably never go away. You know what it is?

I’m the kind of person people love to hate. At 51, when you do things like this, you get the predictable response.

It’s comical to me, because when I started, I was pathetic.
