The key to ensure better things happen more often

Yesterday a couple minutes into an hour bike ride to the gym.

Was on the phone with a potential client at 630am yesterday, while i took these pictures.

Stopped the bike to capture a group photo.

Over focus on the same things others under focus on or ignore.

When you make a commitment to do this every day for the rest of your life, better things happen more often.

But they don’t happen on demand.

They happen organically, in due time.

Sustainable growth, progress, and change cannot be rushed.

Less than an hour ago i woke up and weighed myself (twice) like i always do.

Hit 157.0 for the first time in years.

i’ve been stuck in the 160-164 range for way longer than i wanted.

Here’s the good news: while stuck there, at least it didn’t get worse. Holding steady, even if it’s a higher weight, is superior to progressively heavier weights. i could be 180 right now had i not been able to hold steady.

It took everything i could bring to each day to hold steady.

And in the last 10 days…a remarkable downturn.

In the 151 – 153 range, vibrancy is at it’s highest.

It happens so forgive yourself and move on

Allegiant jet way

It happens so forgive yourself and move on.

We didn’t exercise yesterday (Friday).

Traveling, especially walking at 3:30am, can add an extra degree of tiredness to the day.

Of course, it depends where you’re going, so let’s assume it’s a routine trip to the most familiar place in the world for you.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Mixing it up at the gym

relaxing in Orlando pool
A cold front is arriving today, so i enjoyed the warm water two days ago, knowing the water will cool dramatically.

Mixing it up at the gym.

Two weeks ago, i made a simple decision to mix up my workouts.

To make it easy (at first) i am not doing new exercises, but i am playing around with the weight and repetitions.

Big picture – heavier weights, fewer reps, alternating with some days doing the tried and true routine.

Can already feel an increase in strength.

This is motivating in a way the “stale” routine no longer delivers on.

Organized just enough to do a few remarkable things

Central Florida thunderstorm
Last night’s cross country practice was 30-minutes from school.

Organized just enough to do a few remarkable things. All Summer long, i focused on taking it one day at a time, preparing a 15-year old to be much better prepared than last year to start his second year at his new school.

Things like last night’s Cross Country practice at Red Dirt Road are success indicators.

Not much, but much more than that

Highland Trail Hike
My smile belies my fear.

Highland Trail Hike
A healthy respect for Grizzlies and Black Bears, but no paralyzing fear of Grizzlies.

Highland Trail Hike
The flowers are so small and pretty.

Highland Trail Hike
Well, most of them. Reminded that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Overcoming paralyzing fear is beautiful.

While the two-hour horseback ride and the 1.25 mile hike on the scary part of Highline Trail was not a strenuous workout physically, it did offer a giant leap in overcoming.
