Walking to Old Key West

Maps apps generally do not direct you through business communities. So i had to wait until entering ‘Property’ before Maps would even hint at accurate walking directions.

Disney Institute facilitator reunion planned a few weeks ago for today, December 26, 2025.

Decided to walk.

Saying goodbye to Disney

Saying goodbye to Disney was my first big goodbye.

It was also the most intentional and thoughtful.

Planned six years in advance.

Took my time orchestrating the metamorphosis.

Two years before goodbye, buyer’s remorse hit me hard for a year. What if this is a mistake?

Got through that tough year (2013) and the sixth year (2014) of “goodbye Disney prep” was the best of all my 32 years at Disney.

Keep .thinking .differently

Disney Cast Member only sign

When people ask me how many Cast Members work at Disney, i reply, “On a good day, about half.”

Ps. That was a joke.

Insight: Thinking differently is what made the above ‘keep out’ sign kinda fun, and certainly not intimidating.

Got pulled over

Bicycled from home to Magic Kingdom.

Parked the bike where i always do.

Caught the eye of Sherry from Disney Security.

It’s her duty to ask questions when she sees anything that doesn’t seem normal. She asked, “Are you a working Cast Member?”

We had a nice conversation. She took my employee ID number (which i support). She let me go on about my day.

Note: Asked her if she knows Greg at the Contemporary-to-MK security bag check. She does. Asked if she knows Amy and Alonzo at DU Security. She does. Told her i just spoke to Amy. Sometimes, a big place can feel like Family, even as a Disney retiree.
