And on the seventh day he worked out

Disney Mickey Mouse power pole
Stuck (standstill at 4pm yesterday) in traffic trying to get on I-4. Where do you get your energy from?

And on the seventh day “he” worked out.

He being me.

Cheryl spent all week out of town handling a stressful situation.

We agreed to forego Church yesterday morning.

i had no intention Saturday to ride my bike to the gym, workout, and ride home.

But it happened anyway.

Our resting heart rate is probably tied to our body weight

Disney wellness speaker
yesterday morning sitting on the couch.

The photo above captured yesterday’s mid-morning heartrate. It was an Apple Watch prompt to take a minute to “breathe”. So i did. Haven’t run in months.

A few minutes ago, i got a verbal agreement that Easter 2017 is the beginning of a new life.

Not to lose weight, but to become more active.

Will today be the day?

Thinking differently
How far are we trying to reach with our actions today?

Thinking differently
The time we get from birth to death.

Thinking differently
Telos thinking.

Thinking differently
To what end do we maintain and improve our health? And, when do we start?

Will today be the day she burns the ships?

How’s your flywheel?

The other day…i needed a metaphor to help a teenager understand their continuously accelerating progress. They can’t see it as easily as me.

Last night at sunset, i knew 12 hours later (an hour from now as i type this) i’d be on the bicycle.

Flywheel.

How’s yours?

Hard to get going. Hard to stop once it does.

Getting to exercise three hours this morning feels like a reward versus a burden.

Train for ‘how to’ and develop for ‘have to’

Disney Customer Service Speaker
Rare photo of two Disney Legacy name tags together.

What’s the difference between a lifetime of personal vibrancy and a lifetime without vibrancy?

Development.

Parents train (instruct) their kids how to do things, like brushing and flossing their teeth.

But few parents develop their kids to understand why you have to brush and floss for a lifetime.

When was the last time you flossed? You. Yes you. When?

Ok, when was the last time you flossed daily for an entire year?

Now can you hear me?

Training (aka teaching) is not the same as development (coaching).

  • Training is tangible.
  • Development is intangible.

Training only tells me what to do each day.

Development is what convinces me to actually find the commitment to do it every single day.
