What stokes our fire to carry on in spite of the constant cries

The simple, exquisite daisy at the next blog came from this hillside

What stokes our fire to carry on in spite of the constant cries that it’s too difficult to stay motivated and too mundane to have fun with exercise?

A compelling (and hopefully fun) goal.

So yeah, let’s try another comeback.

Last year’s comeback was stalled by double hernia (hernia occurred June 7) repair surgury in July.

Two days ago moved up to a new age group… M55-59.

Being the youngest is a competitive advantage.

Four for four and 55?

Runners time on iPhone screen shot
Here’s the first announcement of the (running) comeback 2014. Shhh…

Four for four and 55?

Four consecutive nights getting eight hours sleep. Months, maybe longer since that’s happened.

Why?

Busy.

What happens with the insidiously slow change in our sleep intake?

Some say we don’t need as much as we age.

Not if we are inactive. But what if our body needs the rest, then what?

Unplanned 55-minute run. About 10 minutes longer than normal.

Felt it at the end. Probably psychological?

The Herd says, don’t become amazingly healthy

Madison Square Garden and Mid Life Celebration
Someday… sooner rather than later…

Al Sharpton has lost 170 pounds. Saw him on Oprah last night (watched five minutes) as we were searching for which channel was televising the Seahawks versus the 49ers.

Looking at the photos throughout his life and looking at him now…

Wow!

What’s stopping any of us?

The Herd.

The Herd says, don’t become amazingly healthy, you’ll make the rest of us feel too much guilt.

Congrats to the Seahawks btw.

On a health comeback, is it easier to make excuses?

When we are on a health comeback is it easier to make excuses?

Or is the notion that skipping exercise today and chalking it up to over-managing rest, considered a cop out?

Watched Jamaica’s Usain Bolt repeat as World’s Fastest Man at yesterday’s 2013 Track & Field World Championships.

And it was the first time, ever, four athletes from the same country appeared in a final.

Historic.

Inspiring.

The run-one-mailbox-a-day with a new twist

Dr Phillips YMCA Aquatic Center
Doesn’t matter what we do, as long as it’s something

We all struggle with staying motivated. All of us. Even those that don’t seem to struggle.

In 1999 I wasn’t struggling to stay motivated, was struggling to get motivated.

And April Fool’s Day I ran from my mailbox to the first neighbor’s mailbox. And did that five days that first week.

The second week, from our mailbox, ran past the first neighbor’s mailbox to the next neighbor’s. Did that five times that week.

Third week three mail boxes a day. Fourth week, four a day for a week. A month before the equivalent to a lap around a track.

Now….the run-one-mailbox-a-day with a new twist.

Each day add one mailbox.

Today is day four and double inguinal hernia repair surgery return to running week.
