Taking the risk of an unknown path

Frost is rare near Walt Disney World.

Map My Run screen shot
yesterday’s run included taking the risk of an unknown path.

Waited until noon for the January chill to leave the air. It was noon when i took off in a tee shirt. It was 38 when i crawled out of bed seven hours earlier.

i found the shortcut i had always wondered about. It required, as i knew it would, off-road running to accomplish. The GPS only shows paved roads, not swamp.

Swamps are everywhere.

Swamps provide one option.

Turn around and go back.

With the gift of an open schedule, i ran, not worried about turning around.

This short cut to Disney University creates another running option.

Options are the cornerstone for saying motivated.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

He got another taste of 12 hours door to door

He got another taste of 12 hours door to door yesterday as we left our Orlando home at 7am and unlocked our Disney’s Grand Californian Resort room door at 7pm (EST).

Casually, as we rode the Disneyland Express motor coach, i painted the picture of how it is for professional speakers and the glamour of traveling for a living:

After a 12-hour travel day, you still need to get dinner and do an AV check before going to bed.

So where does exercise fall into the agenda?

Plan your rest (inactive) days to coincide with travel days. Or, simply take an extra rest day that week.

Don’t read the fine print, write it

Orlando Motivational Keynote Speakers
Reading the fine print?

The only way to make a New Year’s resolution stick for the rest of our lives is to make “the rest of our lives” part of our contract.

Conventional cliches revolve around “make sure you read the fine print”.

Try this on for size:

Make sure you write the fine print.

You, yes you. Write your contract with yourself. Add the fine print. You know, the clause that says, “I must do this or everything is null and void.”

Please don’t bore us with what you are going to do differently

Lonesome country road in the fog
The loneliness of the daily commitment to lifetime wellness.

Please don’t bore us with what you are going to do differently this year.

Instead, surprise, delight, and inspire with what you’ve already done.

Hope is a great strategy, but it is a poor tactic.

Creativity is rampant here

Teenager studying
Intellect is accentuated with physical wellness.

Creativity is rampant here.

Where?

Anywhere you want it to be.

But it has to be a deeply embedded habit. Otherwise it won’t be a habit. (That’s called a blinding flash of the obvious.)

Last night we jogged six mailboxes, but we mixed it up (got creative) to offset some chest pains.

Instead of jogging six consecutive mailboxes, we jogged three, then walked three, then completed the second three, and finished with walking three more mailboxes to finish where we began.

Guess what?

No pain.

Plus, a remarkably surprising thing happened. The second jog of three mailboxes was the fastest pace we have ever had, and we didn’t even try.

Why?

Because we were warmed up. It was an aha moment.

And even at the fastest pace, no chest pain.
