Had my paradigm destroyed yesterday

Winter Garden Florida
Biked 24 miles round trip to drop off some paperwork. Normal paradigm is to drive that distance for an errand.

Had my paradigm destroyed yesterday.

Up until yesterday, i thought of the gym as strength exercises and core exercises.

Charles, a personal trainer about my age, observed a few of the things i was doing and this ultimately ended with me getting schooled.

What if every exercise is a core exercise?

It should be.

And thanks to Charles, i’m ready to .think .differently about core.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Stay healthy, have fun

Map My Run screen shot
Yesterday’s slow run included two splits that were virtually pain free,

An 8:16 mile four and a 6:51 mile six are quite ordinary when held against the past year’s running. But with the recent resurfacing of right calf pain, these times become something to really feel good about. Find a million ways to stay motivated.

Try to win more than you lose

Florida State HS Basketball state finals
Seconds before tip off yesterday.

Try to win more than you lose. No gym workout yesterday. Had hoped yesterday’s “rest day” could have substituted for a make-up gym workout day.

No go.

Too much to do, too little time.

i did, however, catch a nice nap.

Rest trumped activity.

Sometimes our gifts are disguised as “failure”.

Failure is a great teacher

Service process failure
i love Walgreens. Last night reinforced how challenging it is to be excellent 100% of the time. Notice the two red signs in the bottom corners.

Failure is a great teacher.

Taking risks is a predictable path to failure.

If you want a great teacher, become friends with taking risks (and failure).

Look Mom, no orthotics

Graffiti at Epcot
When does defacing someone else’s property become acceptable? Is there some excuse that makes this ok? Photo: Epcot, Japan, men’s restroom.

Yesterday was the fourth run without orthotics. The first week was only three miles each run. But yesterday it was seven miles. Nice and easy. Is it possible to let go of a 12+ year crutch?

Chronic foot challenges are an invisible disability.

So is a couple’s infertility.

Life goes on.

Depending on what’s important and how bad you want something, you can find a way to keep moving forward.

Don’t let good excuses become a habit.
