What keeps us motivated doesn’t happen too often

The juxtaposition of the Confectionary in the background and the t-shirt. Pixar Confectionary?

What keeps us motivated doesn’t happen too often. But it does happen. And if we’re lucky, it gives us butterflies.

Will do a one-mile time trial, shooting for just under six minutes this morning. A great milestone for an older (55) runner.

This is in preparation for one of only two 5k’s during the entire year. Next Saturday’s 5k will be the first one in the past year.

What we should tweak and never tire of tweaking

Starbucks wall
The original Starbucks was one little store in Seattle back in the 1970’s.

Tweak your plan and never tire of tweaking your plan. Saturdays and Sundays, since Halloween 2014, have been strictly active rest days. No running. No gym.

First time in 15 years that’s happened.

Impossible is nothing.

Looking forward to today’s Monday morning run.

It’s your responsibility to cultivate and harvest motivation

What keeps you motivated is your responsibility to discover, manage, nurture, grow, exploit, and have fun with.

Since retiring four months ago, am only running three days a week, but for much longer distances. A fluke that just happened without any desire or intention. Have run the longest distances in 55 years. Runs of 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8 and 7 miles. Anything less than 7 feels like cheating.

But yesterday was different. Only five miles. Three miles easy warm up, one mile time trial, one mile cool down.

Aimed for a six-minute mile. Came in at 6:04.

Very motivating.
