Have a plan for when the honeymoon effect wears off

traffic in the darkness
Yesterday morning’s run looked like this until dawn.

Soon, not only will it be dark and lonely when i run, but it will also be cold.

It’s been this way since 1999.

Our excuses are invalid.

Period.

Staying motivated looks easy for motivated people

Disney's Magic Kingdom entrance at Halloween
Yesterday at 8:05am.

Yesterday’s running route came down to one simple question:

Should i run to the High School or to Disney’s Magic Kingdom?

Staying motivated looks easy for motivated people. But trust me, motivated people are using every trick in the book – plus inventing things – to keep motivation (and progress) alive.

When do we become unconvinced?

The Morning Call newspaper
Yesterday.

When do we become unconvinced that regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and adequate rest are critical to our aging journey?

Observing senior life from multiple overnight visits to the nursing home/senior living facility, it would, unfortunately, appear to happen decades too soon.

Insight: Never let that happen. Ever.

If it’s not self-evident, you are doomed

Sometimes it feels like talking to a block of wood. Photo: The other day at a client meeting.

Even when we are in vibrant physical condition, we are not guaranteed to stay that way.

This is the harsh reality of why motivation is the key to lifetime success.

If it isn’t self-evident, no inspiring explanation is ever going to be enough.

Why do i still run?

aging truths
From LinkedIn this morning. Truth? Says who?

Why do i still run?

After all, i’ve been running consistently since 1999 (never going more than 10 days without a run).

Most people my age (56) trade in their running shoes for a nice couch and big screen tv.

So to answer the question, i don’t know exactly.
