There really is no other option, except maybe plan B

It matters little to walk to do the preaching if not the walking is the preaching.

Whether we exercise or not, run or not, we surely have intimate understanding of the roadblocks and temptations to quit. We’ve all had our fair share. So what?

Here’s another in a long list.

Pre-operation consult this morning. Have been able to run since the June 7th inguinal hernia, but have avoided the gym for core work.

Nationals is two weeks away.

Last year the 1,500.

This year the 800.

Next year the 400.

Looks like we’ll be moving to Plan B.

Stay strong. Stay motivated.

There really is no other option, except maybe plan B – a new way to keep going.

Does a hernia on the eve of a 54th birthday cancel the 2013 comeback?

Does a hernia on the eve of a 54th birthday cancel the 2013 comeback?

Ten days ago the runner suffered an inguinal hernia while working.

Masters Track & Field Nationals are in 25 days.

This morning’s 5:50 mile felt good.

Dropping down to the 800.

Attendance depends on surgery date.

Impossible is for amateurs.

Stay motivated.

Go!

Keeping the embers hot so we feel the motivation to keep going

Two Black Lab puppies
Puppies really don’t fuel motivation, but they sure are cute

Comeback 2013 is in full swing today with this event – the Central Florida Gliders 21st annual Spring Track Classic at Lake Brantley High School.

The challenge is the 800 is after lunch, in hot humid Florida weather. Traveling business folk (like me) normally run before the sun comes up, with planes to catch and people to see.

Keeping the embers hot so we feel the motivation to keep going, no?

Two thoughts about an experiment to do nothing in preparation for the race

Wall Street Journal Health and Wellness page
Bottom left (red), what if our workout is ‘no workout’?

Two thoughts about an experiment to do nothing in preparation for Saturday’s race:

  1. Is there genius in doing nothing to get better results?
  2. Should epic failure occur, how will it be dealt with?

Going into the 5k with four solid rest days. Doing nothing might make me stronger.

Anyone experimented with less is more?

Breaking Dawn or breaking down yesterday’s post?

Lane 8 just before M50 prelims at 2009 Masters Track World Championships
Lane 8 is reserved for the slowest runner in the 400 meters race

Breaking Dawn or breaking down yesterday’s post?:

1. Impossible goal = earning Lane 8 (the worst lane for the slowest runner) in the 400 meters (at the World Championships)

2. Ongoing, compelling short term goal(s) = next week’s 12th annual Windermere Run Among the Lakes 5k (my very 1st 5k ever in 2003)

3. Turning negatives into positives = cranked out a 5:56 mile yesterday, even with a very strong headwind.

Motivation is like a fire.

What if we acted like we know how to add fuel to it. All the time.

What would happen?

If not us, who?

If not now, when?
