Just. Couldn’t. Do. It.

Morning rain on West Gulf Drive on Sanibel Island

Couldn’t muster the motivation to run yesterday.

Needed to.

Wanted to.

Crystal clear on the benefits.

Clear on the consequences of not exercising.

Just. Couldn’t. Do. It.

This too shall pass.

Especially when we don’t feel like it

screen shot of run times

(photo: screen shot of the alternating walk and run times… Lap 1 was a 17-minute walk)

Life has a funny way of delivering on common sense if we allow it. Especially when we don’t feel like allowing it. Mostly because we think today is going to be the exception.

Felt the need to run but really didn’t feel like running. So it began as a walk.

After a mile or so, decided to run – it was only for three minutes. Just wasn’t feeling it.

Turned off the coastal road and hit the beach and had a strong headwind.

Eureka!

Nearly 20 minutes of running later, a break with a nine-minute walk. Followed by eight more minutes of jogging.

An hour after ‘not feeling like running’, felt refreshed and alive.

Conscious cleared.

When the unexpected bad things happen, we have two major choices

Path to Sanibel Island beachfront

(photo: This is the path that takes us to the beach on Sanibel Island. Down one loved one on this morning’s walk.)

When the unexpected bad things happen, we have two major choices:

  1. Lose control
  2. Maintain control

Like anything else in life, the degree to which we prioritize our busy schedules is the degree to which we plan for bad things.

The time to worry about bad things is when we don’t have to.

Does it make us immune from pain.

No.

It’s still hard as hell.

Imagine if we didn’t exercise, eat right and get decent rest.

The only fair part of life is that it’s unfair to everyone

Closeup of Sanibel Island Beach Sunflower

The only fair part of life is that it’s unfair to everyone.

It was 2:00pm before we got back to the beach cottage yesterday.

Regrouping and such after an emotional 26 hours, we finally walked out to the beach to watch the sun set at 8:20pm.

On the path this was the first eye-catching thing…

A Beach Sunflower.

An emotional sign from Cooper.
