The epic missed wellness opportunity

Hurricane Matthew over Central Florida
Yesterday’s Hurricane Matthew was not a valid excuse. Figure it out in creative ways.

The epic missed wellness opportunity.

It’s this simple – we habitually fail to let go of something in our life. But we continue to proclaim we want to recommit to getting healthy.

Think about it.

We are going to have to stop doing something (that takes our time) to start doing something else (which also takes our time).

We do not get more time. Something has to give in order to get.

Wellness is a daily investment in our time and energy (and possibly money).

Time is the biggest challenge because we are never going to get more than 24 hours a day.

This fact makes perfect sense.

Our mediocre efforts are shouting, “I have no idea what you’re talking about!”

There were so many broken promises

Apple Watch health app
Yesterday morning’s run was 4.35 miles, and a half-mile walk cool down. Have been running 17 years now.

There used to be a time when i would make weight-loss and get healthy goals this time of year.

Ha.

Finally found the solution…

April Fool’s Day 1999, i began running one mailbox a day for a week, then added an additional mailbox distance (100 meters) with each passing week. It was one month before i jogged the equivalent of one lap around a track.

i can’t get over how so many people quit

WPS Cross Country practice
Last night at WPS High School…Cross Country practice.

i can’t get over how so many people quit. i used to be one of them.

  • Not eating a balanced diet (common sense, right?)
  • Not getting regular exercise (more common sense, no?)
  • Not focusing on consistently adequate rest (common sense, not common practice)

And then most of these same people (that was me too) expect others to “have a clue” about a this particular issue or that  particular issue.

Dear Son, get your own house in order, and let others make their choices without any judgement from you.

Of course it’s difficult, and this will never change

Of course it’s difficult and this will never change. Better to accept it and live with the never-ending effort required to get and stay healthy than deny it and live with that.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Retooling our busy schedule

Yesterday on LinkedIn. i feel the same way about personal wellness.

Retooling our busy schedule to fit in regular exercise?

How can we not?

The best time to do this was when we were in High School.

The second best time is this week.

Go.
