A typical run in the greatest city in the world

Times Square
First photo taken yesterday morning – Times Square

Made running a priority yesterday.

And you?

Hey, the fact that it started in Times Square, and included Good Morning America, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Apple Store 5th Avenue, and Central Park was simply a bonus.

Play the hand we are dealt.

Live like you mean it.

Keep things as simple as possible and make sure they just work

Keep things as simple as possible

Keep things as simple as possible. We either exercised a few days last week or we didn’t.

Yesterday a bike rider said he had logged 87 miles in 11 months. Pathetic. Really. If the goal is to be active.

Biking requires equipment. It’s not nearly as safe as other options. It’s not a bad option, just more complicated.

In a moment, this runner is going to go downstairs, out the door, walk to the street and begin running.

Anywhere. Anytime. Alone. With others. Portable. Doable. Shoes and shorts. Go. No excuses.

You’re gonna get hit

Taking risks is risky. So is playing it safe.

Running yesterday, from an old white pickup truck full of construction workers on the opposite side came a shout from across the highway, “You’re gonna get hit.”

A smile came to the face, and peace filled the spirit. We can also say that driving increases our chances of being involved in a highway accident. Flying increases our odds of a plane crash (some people never fly because of this pervasive fear).

We could also have a serious health accident from high blood pressure, poor cholesterol, and so on.

Pick our poison, eh?

The aging public’s general ignorance towards running is stunning

exercise insight
Note from yesterday’s training class (workforce training)

The aging public’s general ignorance towards running is stunning.

We often hear non-runners talking about how smart they are for not running, citing how it saves them from typical runner’s injuries.

In harmony with doing anything is learning how to do the thing well. The people who get exercising-ending injuries are not.

The folks not exercising at all, even less.

Three things running can teach us about writing

Huge rut on Florida dirt road
Out running, spotted a huge rut the driver never saw coming

Three things running can teach us about writing:

  1. We do it because we know, undeniably, it helps us
  2. Not everyday is going to be a top performance
  3. While others criticize our art, we wake up, shut up, put up

It matters little to walk somewhere to preach, if not the whole walk is the preaching.

PS. Wonder if the driver plowed through the rut he created, or needed help getting unstuck.
