100% on the second workout

A typical hike in Glacier is 10 miles with 2,000′ gain and 2,000′ descent.

Not sure why i was able to do the same thing i did over five weeks ago.

You take a break that long and you have to lose something – maybe even a lot.

Not this time.

The only difference is that while i missed going to a gym, i did not miss staying vibrantly active outdoors.

In the past, missing two weeks at the gym and it was almost like starting over. From this historical experience, i created a “no more than 10 days without a gym workout” rule.

At 10 days or less away, i was able to pick up exactly where i left off.

Enjoy active rest

Disney Keynote Speaker
It’s not the Magic that makes it work, it’s the work that makes it Magic.

Enjoy active rest.

Yesterday, Saturday, and today are intentional breaks from exercise.

Knowing i’ll away from home for five days makes tomorrow morning’s workout a valuable and highly anticipated one.

Son, sometimes working out can feel like a treat.

Does 9 extra minutes matter?

First run yesterday.
Second run yesterday.

Does 9 extra minutes matter?

Picture the typical 5am iPhone birds chirping wake up sound.

For the first time in a long time, i hit the snooze on my iPhone.

It’s Saturday and i wanted to experiment with how it felt.

Odds are high i’ll go the rest of the year (7 months) without hitting snooze.

Son, this is an extraordinary gift for being free from a chronic lack of sleep.

Early to bed and early to rise

Yesterday’s first run.

Early to bed and early to rise make a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. – Ben Franklin

Son, wisdom usually goes in one ear and out the other in our youth. You have the opportunity to be an exception to this rule because your parents raised you in their 40’s and 50’s.

Active rest to the rescue

Persian Gulf in Kuwait
Persian Gulf is outside our room, just past the pool.

Active rest to the rescue.

While i didn’t need to exercise formally yesterday, a Saturday, it was tempting to want to.

The lack of sleep and a busy event schedule was all i needed to let it go.
