Do not let them cancel your plans for a lifetime of vibrant health

Rather than run this morning, will take a rain check. Again.

On the drive from the hotel to IAH, to fly to MCO, Some Family time, instead.

Detours happen.

Enjoy and embrace the occasional detours, but do not let detours cancel your plans for a lifetime of vibrant health.

Just didn’t have it yesterday, right?

Hawk on tree branch

(photo: Hawk, middle left, nearly invisible. Running probably would have been too fast to notice.)

Just didn’t have it yesterday. Didn’t feel like running even though that was the plan. Nice and easy. Maybe five miles. Had looked forward to getting into a good rhythm after being on the road last week.

Walked.

Forty-five minutes. Somewhere between two and three miles.

Funny how an important conversation the night before can add a level of emotional labor that drains you into the next day.

Take what you can get is all we have sometimes

Take what you can get is all we have sometimes. Each day we do not exercise makes not exercising tomorrow more acceptable and probable.

Happy to only get in a one mile run. And happy McDonalds was a 400 meter jog back to the hotel.

We lose our edge to stay motivated without these three things

Indianapolis, Indiana
view from treadmill

How’s our motivation? What would we say to that right now?

We lose our edge to stay motivated without these three things:

  1. an impossible goal
  2. (ongoing) compelling short term goals to reach the first goal
  3. the creativity to turn a negative into a positive

Back last night from a road trip. One of the most taxing weeks in a long time. Exercise was minimal.

Five days in a hotel netted only two treadmill runs (not a treadmill fan):

  • 2-miles at 10-minute mile pace (pedestrian for me)
  • 4-miles, including a 6-minute mile (sweet!)

Does this example mean anything to us?
