Life without a clear, concise, compelling goal

Shot putter's dirty t-shirt
Why is one side dirty while the other isn’t? Because he was practicing the Shot Put.

Every teen (even us back in the day) has the opportunity to discover small seeds of possibility within themselves…

He didn’t want to miss Track & Field practice yesterday, a Saturday.

It was only his third practice with the team that has been practicing for two months already.

This is a first on so many levels.

  • He’s never done sports
  • Never expressed interest in sports
  • Never felt confident enough to consider sports

He (independently) coordinated and followed up (and followed through) with Coach Williams.

And i have this vision that in the future he will recall this experience and it will give him what he needs to overcome fear, uncertainty, and doubt.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

To thrive in all areas in spite of it

Two days ago at grocery store.

i’d love to cultivate a hatred for fear.

To push through to the other side.

To no longer allow fear to control what i do or don’t do.

To respect fear.

And to thrive in spite of it.

To fear sugar and processed foods in such a way that they no longer entice me.

Is selling ourselves short a personal choice?

Is it a personal choice to sell ourselves short, or is it society’s fault?

After having accepted that i’m not going to 2015 Worlds this week in France, a revelation this morning…

Began training today for the 2019 World Championships. i’ll be 60. Today’s easy jog reminded me of something. Prior to the injury, i was in the best shape of my adult life.

Telling you that to testify this is true…

Each day it’s the same two choices

Toddler chalk art on sidewalk
Photo from three days ago. As kids, walking took too long, so we ran.

Each day it’s the same two choices.

  1. Step forward with a healthy conviction about our personal responsibility for being active, eating well, and resting well.
  2. Step back into the (delusional) safety of our comfort zone of apathy, indifference, and excuses.

It really is this simple.

Either choice is sustainable for a lifetime.

BFF with denialism?

Disneyland Passes collection

(photo: Having fun and busy schedules are a great distraction from committing to a consistent wellness regime.)

Most if not all of us have a long history of denialism. It’s a comfortable coat we wear, even when we aren’t cold.

We eat because of all the stress in our life and food provides comfort.

And this comfort causes weight gain discomfort which starts the cycle all over again

Gained a few pounds the past five days while at Disneyland.
