Guard and nourish your wellness

Lower Grinnell Lake, zooming in.

Guard and nourish your wellness.

Son, no one can do this for you except you.

This is a huge responsibility.

Create a few daily habits and rituals that few freshmen ever consider:

  • Eat an apple after lunch and dinner.
  • Avoid sleep deprivation
  • Avoid the dessert table

Small wins return compounded daily results.

Small losses (caving to temptation) return compounded daily results.

Go for simple wins and build on them.

Traveling light always feels more invigorating than traveling with more.

It’s a bit like being like a college student.

Exciting.

Adventurous.

Along with the other six wellness tactics.

If you can walk, walk

Geese in v formation
Walking out of the Best Western parking lot yesterday. If you can fly, fly.

Geese in v formation
When they fly together versus solo, is that “public transportation”?

If you can walk, walk.

Walked to and from school yesterday.

Most students here do the same.

It’s a phenomenon that disappears when when we become a full-fledged adult.

Maybe Cort (right) just needs a little nudge to enjoy the morning.

Slept in until 6am yesterday. Why mention it? Because being intentional about our health means we over manage certain things we used to under manage or ignore.

Sleep is one of them.

While sleeping in didn’t get me to eight hours, it did provide one more hour than waking up at 5am, which would have been better for getting my writing done.
