Be careful what the gurus preach

Iconic pink and white beach chairs.
From the pink and white beach chairs, our festive cottage deck. This Santa brings joy to more than just our family.

Have long held a steadfast belief that giving away business content for free diminishes its value.

If Disney Ran Your Life is a creative compromise allowing business wisdom to be generously shared by applying it to personal vibrancy.

As a business owner, you must question:

  • Why are you investing your valuable career time “for free”?
  • Why are you spending serious money for a product you don’t monetize?
  • What would it take to monetize a podcast?
  • What else should you be questioning?

72-hour challenge

Yesterday, met Cheryl at work so we could ride together to Epcot last night. Took this photo of the 2001 photo in her office. i began a consistent workout habit this same year.

Three days later, wrist is improving.

Ice, heat, ibuprofen, and a wrist brace.

Straightforward.

Common sense.

Amazing what can happen in three days.

Remarkable what can happen in nearly two decades using common sense.

Will i return to running soon?

Will you?

How do you define art?

Never gets old.

How do you define art?

For me, art is creating.

There can be no judge nor jury that can decide if art is “good”.

Art is creating something that brings you joy.

Art may or may not bring others joy. This is critical to acknowledge. Art doesn’t need approval to be art.

Art only needs a passionate soul who is willing to spend time creating their art.

Exercising consistently for 20 years, beginning at age 40, is art.

Quitting sugary treats for over a year (and counting) is art.

Writing five daily, differently-themed blog posts since April 1, 2009 without missing a single day is art.

Four growth rings

From a fascinating TEDx Talk.

The growth starts at the bottom and rises. Chaos is not the goal. The goal is to avoid the two ends, and thrive in complexity – that’s where we learn and grow.

  • Chaos
  • Complexity
  • Order
  • Stagnation

Comfort equals stagnation.

Sleeping in, eating processed foods, avoiding annual checkups, not exercising, you get the picture. Comfort.

Any questions?

Have you tried the snake oil?

There’s something about daily margin that never gets old.

Have you tried the snake oil?

What?

You know the Tim Ferris bestselling book, The 4-Hour Workweek?

Do you believe it’s possible or impossible?

Know anyone who’s succeeded? Know anyone who knows anyone who’s succeeded?

Remember the C25K Craze? You can go from couch potato to 5k runner.

Great, buzz-worthy mantra. All snake oil pitches are.

Can you guess the percentage of couch potatoes who have been transformed physically since finishing their first 5k years ago?
