Perception outweighs reality

Roadside marker for roadside death
Yesterday morning, a spontaneous photo – a metaphor on so many levels.

The High School Math teacher asked how i stay so fit. The French teacher said, “I see you running everyday.”

Truth be told, i run Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

To stay fit (since 1999) i run, walk, go to the gym, stretch, sleep decently, and make (mostly) good food choices for quality and quantity, and i find a million ways to stay motivated.

The last one, i forgot to mention to them.

Six freezing miles

Weather app screen shot
Yesterday morning. It dropped to 30 by the time i started.

October Frost

Dorsey Park
New age selfie yesterday. Dorney Park in the background.

Six freezing miles.

Four upper (chest) body layers.

Two lower (shorts) body layers.

Gloves and a hat.

Keep the vital (heart, lungs) organs warm and sensitive extremities (head, hands) covered, and you don’t need sweat pants.

What’s crazier, running in freezing weather in shorts, or not exercising as we age?

First time in tee shirt in six months

Map My Run app
Nice and easy yesterday. A few hours later, a gym workout.

First time wearing a tee shirt (to run) in six months. i knew it was coming. It arrives within a three-week window every year – a chilly morning. And by chilly, below 70 degrees.

About two miles into the 8-miler, the tee-shirt came off – too hot. Made it home before sunrise. If you note the last mile (71 minutes…i forgot to stop the timer) and the time at the very top, the run concluded around 7:10am.

Why do i still run?

aging truths
From LinkedIn this morning. Truth? Says who?

Why do i still run?

After all, i’ve been running consistently since 1999 (never going more than 10 days without a run).

Most people my age (56) trade in their running shoes for a nice couch and big screen tv.

So to answer the question, i don’t know exactly.

Dear Son, here’s what happens when we don’t pick

Running quote
From Facebook, I Like Running.

Dear Son, here’s what happens when we don’t pick. Life picks for us.

Pick anything you like, just be sure to pick.

Even when we choose not to decide, we still have made a choice.
