He missed the entire first week of Cross Country practice because he was on a family vacation in Glacier National Park.
Monday and Friday practices will be 6:00-7:30am.
Yikes.
Because of the sub-tropical heat, Tuesday and Thursday practices will be after school, but late after school, 6:00-7:30pm. And Wednesday will be strength training form 5:30-7:00pm.
This is going to be a significant challenge not only physically, but from a balance perspective as well.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.
First day of Track & Field practice for our Son (15) was yesterday. The current season began in January, but for a variety of reasons, including:
The head Track coach is also the assistant Varsity basketball coach and basketball season was extended far beyond normal because our team won States.
There are no other throwers (Shot Put & Discus) on the team.
Our Son said not much happened at practice, which i think was a good way to ease into it.
This will be fun, and interesting, to see it unfold.
i’ve not been involved other than to push our Son to work this out with the Coach.
PS. The initial team meeting was on our calendar for our Son to attend, but got rescheduled without notice while we were out of town. This was fairly significant. In the days and weeks to follow, our Son took steps to interact with a busy Coach; none of which resulted in any action. And it’s critical to remember that this teen is timid.
One of the best ways to create opportunities is to create opportunities.
PS. Now, today, 100 days later, he is much less timid. Plus, he recently joined the Windermere Running Club.

Surprised to see the Track team having 7am practice on a no-school Friday. The track marked the four-mile mark of yesterday’s run. i said hello to coach Williams and then watched the athletes for a few minutes – in and out of walking and jogging a couple laps. It was tempting to want to run intervals with them.
The night before i arrived early to school (to pick up our son) and with time to kill, walked down to the track. It was the first HS track practice i’ve seen since 1977. Spent 20 minutes wondering what my high school track practices would have looked like to an observer.
PS. i resisted the temptation to ask if i could join in.
